Lift Suspension On Cross-Over Vigil, CAN Urges Ogun Government
The Ogun State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has appealed to the state government over the directive suspending cross-over services and carnivals for the New Year amid the spike in COVID-19 cases nationwide.CAN noted that the directive of the state government had stoked grave misgiving among churches in all parts of the state. It said the government did not suspend the cross-over night service as widely reported.
The state governor, Dapo Abiodun had in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, suspended cross-over services and carnivals for the New Year in view of the increase in COVID-19 cases in the country.
The governor had, also, directed civil servants to proceed on Christmas and New Year break from Thursday, December 24, 2020, to Monday, January 4, 2021.
The state Chairman of CAN, Bishop Tunde Akin-Akinsanya in the statement titled, ‘A passionate appeal for the observance of cross-over night,’ said there had been serious concerns over the ban.
The CAN Chairman said he decided to solicit for the indulgence of the governor to allow for the observance of the cross-over services in churches in the state like it is happening in Lagos State. The statement read, “In view of the second wave of COVID-19 Pandemic and its consequent restrictions on religious activities across the State, there have been so many calls and appeals by the Church leaders for the observance of Cross-Over Night on December 31, 2020.
“To this end, I hereby write on behalf of the leadership and entire structure of Christian Association of Nigeria, Ogun State, to solicit for the indulgence of Your Excellency to allow for the observance of the Cross-Night among the Churches in Ogun State just as it is the in our neighbouring Lagos State.“In the spirit of operating in consonance with COVID-19 protocols, it is our plan and request:“That churches be allowed to START the Cross-Over Night Service by 10:30 pm on 31st December 2020 and END it by 12:15 am on 1st January 2021.
“That the worshippers be allowed movement back to their places of abode between 12:15 am and 1:00 am on 1st January 2021.“That the Churches shall put in place and observe all the necessary COVID-19 protocols as released by the government.“The Church of Christ in Ogun State shall be very happy and grateful to His Excellency for granting this request.”

How Christians can stay connected to their faith during this Lenten period
It’s that time of year again, when Christians come together in fasting and prayer. Whether observing the traditional Lent or entering a focused period of reflection, it’s a chance to connect more deeply with God, and for many, this season even sets the tone for the year ahead.
Of course, staying focused isn’t always easy. Life has a way of throwing distractions your way, a nosy neighbour, a bus driver who refuses to give you your change, or that colleague testing your patience. Keeping your peace takes intention, and turning off the noise and staying on course requires an act of devotion.
Fasting is meant to create a quiet space in your life, but if that space isn’t filled with something meaningful, old habits can creep back in. Sustaining that focus requires reinforcement beyond physical gatherings, and one way to do so is to tune in to faith-based programming to remain spiritually aligned throughout the period and beyond.
On GOtv, Christian channels such as Dove TV channel 113, Faith TV and Trace Gospel provide sermons, worship experiences and teachings that echo what is being practised in churches across the country.
From intentional conversations on Faith TV on GOtv channel 110 to true worship on Trace Gospel on channel 47, these channels provide nurturing content rooted in biblical teaching, worship, and life application. Viewers are met with inspiring sermons, reflections on scripture, and worship sessions that help form a rhythm of devotion. During fasting periods, this kind of consistent spiritual input becomes a source of encouragement, helping believers stay anchored in prayer and mindful of God’s presence throughout their daily routines.

Church Succession Isn’t Automatic, Says Pastor at 11th CASON Confab
Pastor Seyi Oladimeji, Dr. Kunle Hamilton and Pastor Nkechi Ene
Senior Pastor of The Carpenter’s House, Port Harcourt, Mrs. Nkechi Ene has said that when it comes to picking the successor of a church founder or head pastor, it is not a filial matter. “A son is not automatically spiritual or called by God to lead a church, simply because his father is the founder or head pastor” she emphasized. She was speaking at the 11th annual conference of the Church Administrators Society of Nigeria (CASON) held at Pistis Hub, Maryland, Lagos which addressed challenges that churches face in terms of governance and succession planning, in a spirited effort to get church leaders ready to comply with the agitation of government for legal and moral accountability, otherwise risk the penalties of non-compliance.According to Ene, “There are at least five parameters that must be considered when choosing a successor.

CASON 2: Seyi Oladimeji, Nkechi Ene; Funke Amobi; STV Adegbite, Hakeem Ogunniran; and Steve Akoni
One, the call of God should take pre-eminence over the expectation of the congregation. It should also take pre-eminence over family and filial relationship, over seniority in church or family hierarchy, over individual skills – for the Lord still confounds the wise with simple things and people. Number five, the call of God should take pre-eminence over gender. We all must understand that it is not a luxury to be called of Go
