Gov AbdulRazaq mourns Elemona of Ilemona Oba Oyekanmi
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq commiserates with the people of Ilemona in Oyun Local Government Area on the passage, today Saturday May 18, of His Royal Highness Oba Yusuf Omokanye Oyekanmi.
The Elemona passed away at the age of 95, according to palace’s accounts.
The Governor sends his heartfelt condolences to sons and daughters of Ilemona, especially members of his immediate family such as the member of the Kwara State House of Assembly representing Odo-Ogun State Constituency Honourable Toye Yusuf and the aide-de-camp (ADC) to the President Col. Nurudeen Yusuf.
The Governor asks Allaah to grant Oba Yusuf Omokanye Oyekanmi al-jannah Firdaus and give comfort to everyone who mourns him.
Former presidential spokesperson Doyin Okupe has passed away.His death was confirmed on Friday, 7th March, 2025.
Okupe, who previously served as the Director-General of Peter Obi’s Presidential Campaign, was forced to step down from the role following a court conviction for money laundering.After the 2023 general election, he also resigned from the Labour Party and later became a vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.He was a senior adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
With a heart full of gratitude for a selfless life spent in the service of God, the nation and humanity, we announce the passing on of our beloved patriarch, Chief Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo. He died peacefully this morning, Friday, February 14, 2025 at his Lekki, Lagos Nigeria home at the age of 96.
The foremost nationalist, elder statesman, distinguished lawyer, very distinct politician, apostle of true federalism, former organising secretary of Action Group and the national leader of Afenifere is survived by his 94 year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
We will forever cherish his commitment to fighting for truth, equity and justice. His belief and struggle for a truly independent and progressive Nigeria was total and this he fought for until he breathed his last breath. The family is consulting with Papa’s friends, associates, numerous interest groups across the length and breadth of Nigeria and beyond, to fine tune plans for a befitting funeral details which will be communicated in due course.
A condolence register is open at his residence in Lagos (8, Ayo Adebanjo Close, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos) and his country home in Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu Ode Ogun State.

Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) joins President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the rest of the country to mourn the death of the Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
“We send our profound condolences to Mr. President, the Nigerian military establishment, and the family on the sad loss of this great patriot,” according to a statement by the NGF Chairman and Governor of Kwara State Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
“Our hearts are especially with the family and the Nigerian Army at this difficult moment. We are comforted by the unforgettable memories of his unblemished services to our country. Even in death, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja stands honoured for his bravery and dedication to a greater, united Nigeria.
“We ask Almighty God to forgive his shortcomings, admit him to al-jannah Firdaus, and give his family the strength to get through this tough phase of life.”
