Published

A construction worker based in Port Harcourt, Chinedu Uchendu (not real name), has come forward with a distressing account of unauthorized transactions totalling N278,000 from his First Bank account. Despite prompt action, the unfortunate incident unfolded, leaving Uchendu questioning the security measures in place.Uchendu reported waking up to debit notifications in the early hours of December 16, prompting an immediate call to the bank’s customer care centre. Despite his efforts, the funds were continually siphoned from his account, reaching over N200,000, leading to significant financial repercussions.First Bank’s initial response involved advising Uchendu to wait until Monday to report the issue at a branch. Subsequent contacts with customer care revealed conflicting information, with some agents stating the account was under lien, while others remained unaware of the unauthorized transactions.Despite assurances that his card had been blocked, Uchendu continued to receive debit alerts until his account was completely emptied. A visit to the bank’s branch in Woji, Port Harcourt, brought little solace, as officials expressed pessimism regarding the chances of recovering the lost funds.

When contacted, Adedolapo, a customer representative agent at First Bank, revealed that the fraudulent transaction occurred on the web and the funds were sent to MSports. However, Uchendu strongly disputes this, stating that he never saved his PIN or card verification value (CVV) on the platform. He is currently seeking a full investigation and a refund from the bank.First Bank assured that a chargeback had been initiated, and they would provide Uchendu with a journal of the transaction. Nevertheless, the bank advised him to engage MSports for further discussions on the matter and to visit any branch to request the transaction journal.

According to report received by SunCity Africa, the fraudulent Tarun Poddar, the acclaimed owner of FoxHog Venture Corps, initially engaged the Nigerian for his financial services on July 31, 2023 for a part time remote job, but was never coming up with payment despite a well written employment letter signed by both parties, instead he was giving flimsy excuses that money has been sent and assuring the Nigerian of payment, but having seen his unseemly attitude, Dr. Aikoriogie an employee of New York State Government, decided to pull out of the job, sighting that he engaged in the job as part time since it is remote and needs to be done online.

Findings also showed that the bank Poddar claims he ran is false, and not evenregistered in the US, while the address on the companies website turned out to be fake, a clear confirmation of his dubious nature.

According to other reports sighted by our correspondent, Mr. Poddar who had variously claimed to be a Board member at Sequoia Capital, was looking for people who could join him in his new “venture capital firm.”

His profile showed association with Sequoia Capital and that he had graduated from Stanford University with a Master of Business Administration degree which all turned out to be false.

In the petition, Talabi is alleged to have engaged in money laundering and illicit activities linked to the printing of ballot papers for the last general elections.

At a press briefing held in Abeokuta, Monday, Oniyide publicly presented and signed the petition, expressing his concerns to the moral justification for a concern party in the last general elections getting contract from INEC to print ballot papers.

He revealed that Talabi purportedly laundered a sum of N189,797,163.9 in 2020 through a company account named Superflux International Ltd, which he held with Access Bank Plc and linked to Talabi’s BVN.

According to Oliyide, the amounts with payment description; “INEC Electoral amount….4 55 of BALLOT P” were meant for the supply of ballot papers by the company under the financial grip of the SSG to INEC.

“The alleged payments were supposedly made in four tranches on the 19th of June, 2020, for N47,449,290.90 per each transaction, totalling W189,797,163.9 Only. The amount, according to the description of payment was meant for “INEC Electoral amount….4 55 of BALLOT P.

Mega Fraud: GTBANK Top Manager Stole N1 billion From Customers Accounts, Dangote, Shell, Chevron, Others’ Stolen From

Guaranty Trust Bank (GT Bank) has come under serious attacks in recent times.

The bank has gotten itself entangled with five different mega entities with a Lagos Federal High Court attempting to settle the rifts between the bank and the businesses.

The only problem is that none of these businesses is a small fry and the object of contention is a staggering N1 billion which has disappeared from the GT Bank domiciliary accounts of these companies.

This online newspaper understands that coming first in any tournament of business and profitability requires boldness robust enough to topple the world.

But when this boldness leads in the direction of greed and infamy, the trophies that follow being triumphant would eventually bury the winner under the weight of a bad reputation.

For context, the entities whose trust GT Bank has reportedly lost are Chevron Nigeria, Shell Nigeria, Dangote Agro Sack Ltd, Nigeria Breweries, and the Jigawa State Local Government.

The story is that four men deployed the resources of four companies to snatch varying amounts of money from Chevron and the others.

Certainly, a duplicitous act steeped in fraud, the accused used various means to hack GT Bank databases, thereby obtaining unauthorized access to the corporate accounts of these mega entities.

Although GT Bank is not the first prominent bank to have its server hacked, not even in 2023, it is certainly the one with the largest hole based on how much was stolen from the domiciliary accounts of Chevron, Dangote, and others.

The boldness of the accused boggles the healthy mind but the Court is yet to decide on what to do, and so it has pushed the next hearing of the case to a fresh date.

Whatever happens with the case, one thing is sure: GT Bank has to give explanation for the alleged porousness of its security system, otherwise, it would be a guaranteed nest for fraud and fraudsters.
