Brazilian Descendants Association(BDALAGOS) Set to hold Heritage Festival In Lagos

In preparation towards this year’s annual Afro-Brazilian Heritage Festival in the Brazilian Quarters also known as the POPO AGUDA in Lagos Island.

It’s a four day festival approved by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Information and Culture to celebrate the Afro-Brazilian Heritage in Lagos, Nigeria.

They are calling on all son’s and daughter’s of Popo Aguda Community to come together to celebrate their heritage and all their forebearers brought back to Lagos from Brazil, that made them a unique community in Lagos State, Nigeria.

With proud and joyful hearts, we are calling on all to celebrate our Heritage Day.
Make it a date to join us and enjoy our special day. Come and taste our various food, fashion, Art, music, cultural traditions and more exciting history of our ancestors.

The 4-day event are as follows;

DAY ONE
30th of November, 2023:
Annual Memorial Lecture in honour of the families of Amaro Marinho/Dalmas, Damazio and Pacheco, laying of wreaths for the departed Afro-Brazilians at Campos Memorial Mini Stadium Lagos Island and unveiling of the Afro Brazilian Heritage Treasures in Nigeria Project at the Shoremekun Hall Broad Street by 12. noon

DAY TWO
Friday, 1st of December 2023:
There will be a special prayer session for the Afro-Brazilian Community at the Brazilian Salvador Mosque, Joseph Street and the Afro-Brazilian Food Exhibition at the Shoremekun Hall Broad Street. by 6:00pm.

DAY THREE
2nd of December, 2023: The main event for all families of Afro-Braziilian Cultural & Traditional display at Shoremekun Hall Broad Street and Families procession starting from the Afro-Brazilian Cultural Centre, 13, Catholic Mission Street Lagos Island starting at 12.noon.

Day FOUR
3rd of December, 2023: Thanksgiving mass for the Afro-Brazilian Community at the Holy Cross Cathedral Church, 14, Catholic Mission Street Lagos Island by 8:00am.

Mudashiru Obasa, has congratulated His Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos as he marks his 81st birthday on Tuesday.In a statement by his media office, Speaker Obasa, the Baa’sofin of Lagos, said at 81, the revered monarch remains committed to excellent community and public service with results that keep promoting the growth and progress of Lagos.Dr. Obasa extolled the Eleko’s virtues, said Oba Akiolu, Permanent Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, has constantly brought his wisdom to bear in the advancement of the traditional institution as well as the running of the state.”Oba Akiolu remains a strong believer in the Yoruba tradition, a faithful custodian of culture and a traditional ruler whose knowledge has continued to help Lagos grow in leaps and bounds.”His reign has mostly brought peace to Lagos just as the monarch has constantly sustained our traditional institution in the state.”It is exciting to say that Eleko has always brought honour to the throne of his ancestors. His reign has been characterised by unwavering dedication and compassion for Lagosians.”His guidance, advice and love for his subjects cannot be over-emphasised; his roles in our lives make him a worthy father. As the monarch, he remains our rallying point.”A source of inspiration, Eleko’s leadership has actuated us to greater heights while bringing value to the throne and strengthening the bond that exists among traditional rulers in the state.“On behalf of my family, colleagues, management and staff of the Lagos State House of Assembly, I celebrate you on this occasion of your 81st birthday and pray that your reign continues to be a blessing for our dear State and beyond,” the statement released by the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Eromosele Ebhomele, said.
