The Non-Teaching Staff Union of Polytechnics, NOTSUP, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government over the continued non-implementation of outstanding union agreements and non-payment of entitlements due to its members.

The union, in a communiqué signed by its National President, Comrade Shaba Nakorji, expressed grave concern over what it described as persistent delays by the Federal Government in implementing agreements reached with the union, issuing relevant implementation circulars, and paying outstanding allowances and arrears owed to non-teaching staff across the nation’s polytechnics.

According to NOTSUP, the delay amounts to a breach of the principles of collective bargaining, good-faith negotiation and industrial justice.

The union is therefore demanding that the Federal Ministry of Education immediately issue all outstanding implementation circulars, ensure full implementation of all applicable agreements, and facilitate the prompt payment of all verified outstanding entitlements, allowances and arrears.

NOTSUP also demanded that the Ministry provides a definite implementation timeline and official update on all pending matters, and convene urgent consultations with the union to resolve outstanding issues.

The communiqué stated that failure by the authorities to take concrete and verifiable steps within 14 days from the date of receipt of its formal demand would compel the union to convene its appropriate organs to consider legitimate trade union action in accordance with its constitution and applicable labour laws.

While reaffirming its commitment to constructive engagement, social dialogue and industrial peace, the union insisted that agreements must be honoured, circulars issued and workers’ entitlements paid without further delay.

It called on the Honourable Minister of Education to intervene urgently in the interest of workers’ welfare, collective bargaining and harmonious industrial relations in the nation’s polytechnics.
