BREAKING: Lagos APC Expels Egunjobi, Azeez Yusuf: No Room for Political Freelancing and Betrayal

Party says former Agege Assembly aspirants can no longer represent or transact business on its behalf

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the expulsion of Chief Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Mr. Azeez Yusuf, following what the party described as anti-party activities, disloyalty and conduct contrary to the discipline of the party.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Lagos APC State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Egunjobi and Yusuf were former APC aspirants for the Lagos State House of Assembly seats in Agege Constituencies I and II, respectively.

Their departure from the APC followed a controversial sequence of events surrounding the party’s 2026 Assembly primaries. Reports indicate that both men subsequently secured tickets of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to pursue their 2027 Assembly ambitions. (Vanguard News)

According to the Lagos APC, members who contest the party’s internal nomination process are expected to respect the outcome or pursue available avenues of redress within the party and under the law.

The party said obtaining tickets on another political platform after participating in the APC nomination process amounted to conduct inconsistent with its obligations of party membership.

APC INVOKES CONSTITUTIONAL PROVISIONS

The Lagos APC stated that it had invoked the relevant provisions of Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, in taking disciplinary action against the two former members.

The party further maintained that membership of the APC cannot be treated as a temporary political affiliation that can be abandoned after an unsuccessful nomination process.

The development comes against the backdrop of an already contentious Agege primary-election dispute. In June, protests were reported at the Lagos APC secretariat over the party’s published candidates for Agege Constituencies I and II, with some protesters insisting that Egunjobi and Yusuf had won the respective primaries. ‘THEY ARE NO LONGER APC MEMBERS’ — PARTY

The Lagos APC declared that Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf are no longer members of the All Progressives Congress.

The party consequently warned that neither individual is authorised to:

Speak on behalf of the Lagos APC;
Represent the APC in any capacity;
Negotiate on behalf of the party;
Conduct transactions in the name of the APC; or
Present themselves as authorised agents or representatives of the party.

The party urged its members, supporters, stakeholders and members of the public to take note of the change in their status.

APC: ‘THE PARTY REMAINS A PARTY OF RULES’

The Lagos APC reaffirmed its commitment to party discipline, internal democracy and adherence to its constitution and applicable electoral regulations.

The party said its disciplinary action was aimed at protecting the cohesion and integrity of the organisation as preparations continue towards the forthcoming elections.
