Is Mohamed Salah the Premier League’s Best Player This Season?

Published

on

In a season where the Premier League is bursting with brilliance, it takes something truly special to stand out. Yet here we are, discussing Mohamed Salah, a player who’s been so exceptional that his performances feel almost routine. It’s time to stop and give the Egyptian King the recognition he deserves. Because let’s face it, no one’s doing it quite like Salah this season. And thanks to Showmax, fans can witness every magical moment of the Premier League from the comfort of their mobile screens.Currently leading the league in both goals (18) and assists (13), Salah has been the architect of Liverpool’s dominance. The Reds are perched comfortably at the top of the table, six points clear of Arsenal with a game in hand. While Liverpool’s title charge has been a collective effort—with stalwarts like Virgil van Dijk marshaling the defense and Ryan Gravenberch commanding the midfield, it is Salah who’s the beating heart of this campaign. His contributions are not just numerical; they’re timely, decisive, and often breathtaking.Consistency in ChaosLet’s address the elephant in the room: Salah’s contract situation. Rumors have swirled about his potential departure after seven glorious seasons at Anfield. Lesser players might have let the uncertainty seep into their form, but not Salah. Instead, he’s turned every match into a personal highlight reel. Whether it’s a clinical finish or a perfectly weighted assist, Salah’s output has remained unshaken. That level of mental fortitude is a rare commodity in football, and it’s what separates good players from truly great ones.Notable Mentions: Breaking Records and Defying LimitsIf we’re talking contenders, Alexander Isak deserves a mention. The Newcastle forward has been on fire, with 15 goals and 5 assists, including an incredible streak of scoring in eight consecutive Premier League games. Isak’s form has been a joy to watch, and his achievements—including breaking Alan Shearer’s long-standing Newcastle record, are nothing short of remarkable. But streaks, by their nature, come to an end. Salah’s greatness, however, lies in his ability to sustain brilliance week in and week out.Since the season kicked off, Salah has been a face of consistency. He doesn’t just rack up goals and assists; he delivers them when it matters most. Salah thrives in big games, tough opponents, and tight situations. His knack for being at the right place at the right time isn’t luck; it’s years of experience, honed instinct, and sheer footballing intelligence.All-Time Greatness BeckonsWith Liverpool threatening to run away with the title, it’s time to have the “legacy” conversation. Where does Salah rank among the Premier League’s all-time greats? The Thierry Henrys’, the Alan Shearer’s, the Cristiano Ronaldos’ of the world? If he continues at this pace and Liverpool lifts the trophy, Salah’s place among the legends will be undeniable. In an era where football often feels like it’s moving at a million miles per hour, Salah’s brilliance demands we pause and take notice. He’s more than just the best player this season; he’s a player for the ages, and it’s a reminder of why we fell in love with this game in the first place. And for fans eager to follow his journey, Showmax ensures you don’t miss a single kick, assist, or goal. Sign up for the Showmax Premier League mobile plan for just N3,200 at www.showmax.com.So, while others might grab headlines for their fleeting moments of magic, Salah’s season has been a masterclass in sustained excellence. If the Premier League’s best-performing player isn’t him, then who else could it possibly be?

Can Newcastle Challenge for the Title Next Season?

Published

Newcastle United’s rise has become one of the Premier League’s most intriguing stories. From relegation, promotion, mid-table obscurity to serious contenders, the Magpies are now the most in-form side in the league, with six consecutive wins, including wins over top teams.

Their turnaround can be traced back to the appointment of Eddie Howe and the 2021 takeover by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF). Backed by a financial powerhouse with long-term ambition, the club has steadily built a competitive squad, a smart recruitment system, and a solid management structure. Similar to Manchester City’s transformation under Sheikh Mansour, Newcastle’s growth has been driven by strategic investments rather than short-term spending.

That progress has already delivered silverware. Newcastle lifted the Carabao Cup in March 2025, beating Liverpool at Wembley to secure their first major title in 70 years. It was a defining moment and a statement of their new era.

Crucial to this rise has been a potent squad, spearheaded by the electric Aleksander Isak and the relentless Anthony Gordon. Their attacking chemistry, supported by a midfield engine room of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton, has turned Newcastle into a well-balanced, high-intensity side capable of dominating possession or punishing on the counter.

This weekend, they face a major test against Aston Villa on Saturday on GOtv, another club punching above its weight. Villa are only six points behind Newcastle with six matches left in the season. They recently reached the Champions League quarter-finals and were just one goal away from the semi-finals. Their January signings, including Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio, have added quality and depth to an already strong squad.

Newcastle won the reverse fixture earlier this season, but Villa’s current form makes this a high-stakes battle. A win could help Newcastle secure a top-three finish and build serious momentum heading into next season. A loss, however, could open the door for Villa to close the gap and reshape the top-four race.

With investment, form, and belief on their side, Newcastle are no longer outsiders. If they finish this season strong and reinforce wisely in the summer, they could be genuine title challengers next season.

Nigeria’s teenage boxing sensation and University of Lagos Law undergraduate, Raheem “Badoo” Animashaun, is set to return to action at GOtv Boxing Night 33 on April 26th, where he will face Gbodja Jean Coffi of the Benin Republic. The bout is one of the seven scheduled for the event, which will take place at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

Badoo, who has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most promising boxing talents, comes into the fight with an unblemished record of 14 wins from 14 fights, including eight knockouts. He was named Best Boxer at the last two editions of the event and left a strong impression at GOtv Boxing Night 32, where he dispatched the experienced Hammed “Ese” Ganiyu via technical knockout.

The teenager will now go up against another experienced opponent in Coffi, a veteran from the Benin Republic. Coffi, nicknamed “Lit the Fire,” has recorded two wins in his last three outings. His most recent fight was against Congo’s Chadrack Kalala Mbenga.

Speaking ahead of the bout, Bamidele Johnson, Chief Operating Officer of Flykite Productions, said the encounter exemplifies the competition and growth that GOtv Boxing Night aims to deliver. He described Badoo as one of the most exciting young boxers in Nigeria and said the clash with Coffi would be a significant test of his ability to adapt against a seasoned opponent.

Also on the card is an international lightweight contest between Ghana’s Emmanuel Otoo and Nigeria’s Tosin “Sojar Boy” Osaigbovo. Other notable pairings include William “Kaki” Amosu against Emmanuel “Ability Famous” Abimbola in the light welterweight category, and national contests involving Segun Gbobaniyi, Sodiq Oyakojo, Tobiloba Ijomoni, and Sodiq Adeleke.

GOtv Boxing Night 33 is organised by Flykite Productions and sponsored by  GOtv Nigeria.
