Five Exciting Highlights from the 2024 Edition of the Akada Children’s Book Festival

The Akada Children’s Book Festival (ACBF) has become a cornerstone of Nigeria’s literary landscape since its inception in 2019. Dedicated exclusively to children, this festival serves as a vibrant platform for promoting literacy and showcasing the talents of indigenous authors. The recent sixth edition, themed “Read Your Way,” had over 1,157 attendees this year, ACBF continues to foster a love of reading and cultural awareness among young Nigerians, highlighting the importance of local stories and authors in shaping children’s literature.Here are five highlights from this year’s festival that truly made it an unforgettable experience for all attendees.The Inaugural Akada Children’s Book of the Year Award One of the most significant moments of ACBF 2024 was the presentation of the inaugural Akada Children’s Book of the Year Award, awarded to renowned author Lola Shoneyin for her picture book Anyibo and the Mother Hen. This recognition not only honors Shoneyin’s contribution but also underscores ACBF’s commitment to recognizing and uplifting African storytelling for children, amplifying stories that reflect the realities and dreams of young Nigerian readers.Nurturing Young Talents and Future Authors: The festival recognized young illustrators and writers, with awards presented to Moyinoluwa and Auden Aiken for illustration and Tijani Hameedah and Prosper Illimiamhode Kadrils for writing. Other activities included a Young Authors’ Panel with Seyi Odewoye, author of Nala Am I Black and Proud and Omotorera Agun, author of The Marvellous Cat and Other Stories; theme songs performed by students from Dominican Nursery & Primary School, Princeton School and Grange School, with Grange School winning the Best Performance Award; a book chat with students from Leap for Joy School; and a drama performance by Kunbi’s Music.• “Read Your Way”: The Theme: This year’s theme, Read Your Way, reflected ACBF’s mission to foster an inclusive reading culture, encouraging children to engage with literature that resonates with their personal and cultural experiences. The theme also addresses Nigeria’s pressing literacy challenges, underscoring the festival’s essential role in building a stronger reading foundation for Nigerian children. By promoting stories that mirror their identities and backgrounds, ACBF aims to inspire a love for reading that empowers the next generation with knowledge and cultural pride.• Unforgettable Activities : The festival was packed with engaging activities that sparked creativity and excitement among attendees. It showcased 29 original children’s books created by Nigerian authors both locally and internationally. In addition to book readings, the festival featured Storytime sessions and book exhibitions, allowing children to meet their favorite authors and discover new stories. Engaging activities included a chess tournament with International Chess Master Femi Balogun; a STEM exhibition; a sip and paint session; pop quiz; giveaways; fun games for parents and children; all creating an atmosphere of learning, connection, and joyful exploration for everyone involved. In addition, this year’s festival introduced a Yoruba-Themed Story Time, which aimed to celebrate and spotlight traditional story telling methods. This session not only engaged children with tales from their cultural heritage but also included interactive music, dance and drama, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the richness of Yoruba literature. This initiative aligns perfectly with the festival’s goal of promoting local narratives and fostering a sense of pride in Nigerian culture.Insightful Sessions for Parents and Educators ACBF 2024 recognized the vital role that parents and educators play in fostering literacy development. Insightful sessions were held to provide practical guidance on supporting children’s reading and writing skills. These workshops addressed common challenges faced by parents and teachers, equipping them with tools to nurture a love for literature in the younger generation.The Akada Children’s Book Festival is an annual celebration of literature designed for young readers, and participation is open to everyone who shares a passion for fostering literacy among children. One of the latest of them all is the death of member of the Lagos governance advisory council (GAC) which he prophesied four days ago.With well over 15,000 fulfilled prophecies to his credit, Primate Ayodele continues to break his own record with more fulfillments of prophecies.In addition to all that have to pass, below are some newly fulfilled prophecies of Primate Ayodele:1 Pope injury: Pope Francis has suffered his second fall in as many months and bruised his forearm, the Vatican said Thursday, adding that he was wearing a sling.The 88-year-old, who has been in increasingly fragile health in recent years, fell at the Santa Marta residence where he lives in the Vatican but did not break any bones, the press office said in a statement.Primate Ayodele had in his prophecy booklet stated that he foresees the pope stumbling in one of his outings.In his words, “Let the pope be careful not to stumble or slump”, this development fulfilled his prophecy.2. Former first lady: A former First Lady of Delta State, Edna Ibru, nee Park, has died in London, UK.Edna was the wife of Chief Felix Ibru, who was the first civilian governor of Delta State.Her death was confirmed in a statement released by her son, Paul.This incident has confirmed the prophecy of Primate Ayodele about the death of a former first lady which was included in his 2025 prophecies.“Let us pray against the death of a First lady, or a former First lady and pray that any First lady will not fall sick.”3. Tanker explosion: No fewer than 60 bodies have been recovered from the scene of tanker explosion at Dikko, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.Daily Trust had reported how a fuel-laden tanker exploded on Saturday morning, killing scores and injuring several others.The Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kumar Tsukwam, revealed the number in an update Saturday afternoon.Primate Ayodele in his annual prophecy book warned in his 2025 prophecies that Nigerians should pray against tanker explosion that will claim several lives.”EXPLOSIONS: Let us be watchful of tanker explosion that will consume many lives”

How Primate Ayodele Foretold Death of Lagos GAC Member Three Days Ago

The governor’s advisory council (GAC) in Lagos state have been thrown into mourning following the death of Pa Akinsanya Sunny Ajose, a high ranking member of the body.

He reportedly died on Wednesday after battling an illness briefly.

Unfortunately, Pa Ajose’s death has fulfilled the prophecy of Primate Ayodele which he shared three days ago.

Primate Ayodele in his prophecy had warned the GAC members to be prayerful against bereavement among them.

This prophecy was shared alongside his revelation about some politicians who won’t become the next governor of Lagos state. It was in the same breathe that he warned the GAC members in Lagos state.

These were his words

“I also want the GAC members to pray so that they won’t be divided. The 2027 governorship race in Lagos will divide them. Likewise, they should pray against bereavement,”

Just three days later, this prophecy has been fulfilled.

However, Primate Ayodele had warned the GAC members of Lagos state in an interview with Global Excellence magazine in December 2024.

The prophet asked the apex members to pray against losing one of them.

“ Let’s pray GAC doesn’t lose a member”

Sadly, Pa Ajose’s death has fulfilled this prophecy.

Obasa’s Impeachment As Lagos Speaker Fulfills Primate Ayodele’s 2025 Prophecies

The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele in his 2025 prophecies that were released on Friday, 20th of December 2024 touched several areas which included the legislative arms of states across Nigeria.While talking about the legislative in the 95-page prophecy booklet, Primate Ayodele made it known that he foresees the removal of two state assembly speakers in 2025.He warned in two different pages that there will be removal of speakers and deputy speakers in the country before the end of 2025.These were his words“Let us rebuke the removal of the Speaker or Deputy Speaker of any State House of Assembly. Let us rebuke also what can cause the impeachment of the Speaker or the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives. We must commit our State Governors and their Deputies into the hands of God and rebuke crisis that may arise between or among them.” (Pg 6)“STATE GOVERNORS: I foresee that some governors in Nigeria will remove the Secretary to the State Government and reshuffle their Cabinets. I foresee the removal of Speakers of two States House of Assembly.” (Pg 24)In fulfillment of this prophecy, confirmed reports have it that the speaker of Lagos state, Mudashiru Obasa has been suddenly impeached.Obasa had before his impeachment been accused of allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement.He is among other things, alleged to have recklessly spent N17 billion on a gate to the assembly complex.Obasa has also been accused of being contemptuous of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
