FG bans 90 air passengers for violation of Covid-19 protocols

Presidential Steering Committee on covid-19 publishes 90 names of air passengers banned from travelling due to violation of covid-19 protocols.

The affected air passengers whose passports, visas, and permits have been suspended failed to undergo mandatory 7-day quarantine and to run covid-19 test on arrival in Nigeria from covid-19 high-risk countries.

The 90 affected persons include 63 Nigerian citizens, 26 Indians, and 1 Danish who visited UAE, Indian, Brazil, Turkey, and Qatar in the last 14 days prior to their arrival in Nigeria

Identified violators arrived in Nigeria through Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe.

The international airport, Abuja between May 8 and May 15, 2021, and constitute an immediate health hazard to society.

Further sanctions against the violators to include; disabling their travel passports for a period not less than one year;

Cancelation of visas or permits of foreigners that have abused Nigeria’s hospitality; and prosecution under 2021 health protection regulations

Additional list of batch ii defaulters shall be published by the presidential steering committee on covid-19 in subsequent announcement

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has confirmed 473 new cases of Coronaviruses cases in Nigeria, bringing total number of infections in the country to 177,615.

165,472 have been discharged, while 2,185 deaths have been recorded.

For Saturday’s figure, Lagos state continues to lead others with 323 cases.

NCDC confirms 407 new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has confirmed 407 new cases of COVID19 in Nigeria.

The breakdown shows that Lagos has 160, Akwa Ibom -75, and Ondo-51.

Others include Abia-33, Oyo-29, Kaduna-18, Katsina-7, Gombe, and Ogun have 6 each.

Ekiti has 5, Delta-4, FCT-4, Ebonyi-3, Edo, and Niger have 2 each, while Bayelsa and Nasarawa have 1 each.

So far, Nigeria has had 174,315 confirmed cases, with 165,005 discharged and 2,149 deaths.

Today’s report includes 0 cases reported from Kano, Osun, Plateau, Rivers, and Sokoto States.

Coronavirus infections surge in Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC on Saturday confirmed 497 new cases of Coronavirus in the country.

New infections have remained high in recent weeks after the figures became negligible in the last months before the deadly Delta variant was detected in the country.

As usual, Lagos had the largest figure 211. It is followed by Akwa Ibom with 80. Other new infections are as follows:
