3 Police Officers Die In Ebonyi Auto Crash

Three police officers with the Ebonyi Police Command were killed on Wednesday in a road accident at the Isieke Junction on Abakaliki-Enugu Expressway.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Aliyu, who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with some journalists, said that 10 other police officers sustained injuries.

“Yes, I am in the hospital now, we lost three officers while 10 others are under intensive care in the hospital,“ he said.

According to Garba, the accident happened while the officers were returning from a “peace-keeping-mission” after a communal crisis in Ezza-Effium, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.

Newsjaunts recalls that a leadership tussle among members of the National Union of Road Transport workers (NURTW) in the two communities degenerated into a communal crisis.

The Gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Hon. (Dr) Oladipupo Adebutu has sympathised with the people of Akute area of Ifo Local Government, particularly the victims of the fire explosion caused by a Petrol-laden Tanker that fell and spilled its contents in Olambe, Akute road on Saturday, 3rd September, 2022.

The statement issued on Sunday by the Media Director, Ladi Adebutu Campaign Organization, Afolabi Orekoya, described the incident as a very sad and pathetic occurrence. The statement said further that the incident which affected some residential buildings, shops and churches is shocking and devastating.

“Thankfully to God, no life was lost in the said incident, but we identify with our people who lost properties and materials to this ugly incident as we will continue to pray to God for the safety of lives and properties of our people”.

“Please be comforted with the saying that when there is life there is hope, since God has preserved our lives – that we lost no life to the unfortunate inferno, there is hope for a better tomorrow, which will bring relief to all our sorrows”.

“One of our programmes is to give attention to our border communities, providing good roads that will avert preventable road accidents caused as a result of bad roads; and other social services that will make life enjoyable to our people in these areas”.

While we promise a responsive and responsible government come 2023, we appeal to all motorists, particularly, the owners and drivers of heavy trucks and articulated vehicles to always ensure good conditions of their vehicles before setting out on any journey to avoid accidents that may be caused by avoidable mechanical faults”.

Orekoya in the statement assured the victims of the inferno of support to alleviate effects of the incident on the people.

Ladi Adebutu Commiserates with The Victims of Lafenwa Inferno

The Chairman, Federal House Committee on Rural Development in the 8th National Assembly, Hon. Oladidupo Adebutu has sent his condolences to the victims of Lafenwa Market Inferno which was caused by a fallen truck ladened with Premium Motor Spirits (Petrol) in the early hours of Sunday, 28th November, 2021..

According to a statement issued on Sunday by his Consultant on Media,  Afolabi Orekoya, Hon. Oladidupo Adebutu described the disaster and its fallout as “very unfortunate, sad and massive.”



He said, “I wish to express my deep sympathy and concern, I also commiserate with the families of the victims, who lost their lives and valuables to the fire outbreak at Lafenwa market which was caused by the fallen truck loaded with PMS which could have possibly been avoided if the present Government saw the need to make the Lafenwa – Ayetoro road passable”.

Adebutu wished the injured persons speedy recovery and prayed that God would console the grieving families which the incident affected.



Adebutu also called on the Ogun State Government led by Prince Dapo Abiodun to be proactive to the concerns of the citizens, not to be waiting until something terrible as this happened before doing the right thing. He lamented that several complaints were made concerning the condition of the road which the government failed to respond and put in any positive action. He stressed that “if we have had a responsive and passionate government that takes the lives of its citizens very important, this sad occurrence would have been avoided”.

Angry Mob Sets Suspected Armed Robber Ablaze

Angry mob have set ablaze a suspected armed robber identified as Tega along Udu road by Ovwian Secondary School, Ovwian in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

The suspected armed robber was allegedly caught by men of the Nigeria Police Force while trying to break into a store close to the flyover.

Eye witnesses who don’t want their names in print told INDEPENDENT that it was men of the Nigeria Police that later returned the suspected armed robber for the mob to deal with, that they were tired of handling his robbery cases.

The eye witnesses said it was when the police had left that angry Motorcycle riders and passers-by beat him to stuppour and subsequently set him ablaze.
