
Groups of young men commonly known as “area boys” have been surrounding vehicles stuck in traffic on key routes, including the Orile–3rd Mainland Bridge, demanding cash from motorists.
Videos circulating online show the groups blocking cars, striking vehicles, and in some cases yanking off side mirrors while targeting higher-end vehicles. One couple involved in a recent incident escaped without physical injury but described the experience as deeply unsettling.
Similar daylight attacks during peak commuting hours have been reported by other residents. Frustrated Lagosians have voiced growing concern, noting that drivers often face a stark choice between handing over money or confronting aggressive behaviour.
Many are calling on the Lagos State Government and security agencies to intervene swiftly to prevent the harassment from spreading further across the city.
