As the campaigns for the September 21, 2024, local government elections in Kwara State heat up, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been hit by a leadership drain after one of its influential leaders in Offa Local Government Area turned in his resignation letter earlier today.

The PDP Vice Chairman of Balogun Ward, Offa Kwara State, Mallam Sanni Jubril O., who forwarded his resignation letter to the chairman of the Ward, thanks the party leadership for allowing him to serve and for the benefits that came with the position he held.

He urged the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, leadership to respect his decision and immediately formally revoke his membership and remove his name from the party’s register.

While his decision to dump the party wasn’t stated in the now-viral letter, those who know Mr Sanni Jubril said his resignation from the PDP will deal significant blows to the party given his unparalleled influence in his Ward and the Offa Local Government Area in general.

Recall that the Kwara PDP has been consistent in losing its top members to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the last five years. While some of them have given Dr Bukola Saraki’s high-handedness as their reason for leaving the party, others have said it was his refusal to account for the 2023 campaign funds.
