The Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Isa Jere, has approved the opening of its offices across the country on Saturdays to facilitate the issuance of backlog of passport applications. In a statement signed by the public relations officer of the service, Tony Akuneme, the backlog was caused by the 2020 and 2021 prolonged lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The statement further noted the resolve of the Nigerian immigration service to ensure availability of passports services and a stress free process to the traveling public. It added that going forward, passport controllers will be held accountable for any acts of indiscipline by officers under their watch.
